On January 26, 2011, all 9th & 10th grade students enrolled in Physical Science and Biology at Central Campus in Minot expanded their knowledge of career opportunities linked to science & math by attending Science & Math Career Day. Each hour of the day students met in the auditorium to listen to a panel of speakers discuss career opportunities within their area of expertise. During the presentations, students learned about education requirements for each career, the average earnings of each, and the importance of what they are learning in school. The goal of this workshop was to put more emphasis on science & math by using the careers discussed as a hook to engage students and encourage them to work harder in their science and math classes. At the end of each presentation, students were given the opportunity to ask questions.

Students were asked to evaluate the three presentations they attended according to the informatoin that was shared. Before completing the evaluation, students were reminded our presenters were not professional speakers, but people from our business community who gave time out of their busy schedule to share information about career opportunities linked to Science and Math. Students evaluated this event by selecting their response on the following scale:

The first smiley face represents excellent, the straight face represents average, and the frown represents poor.

Out of the 2142 presenter evaluations turned in, 1050 students rated one of the presentations as excellent, 884 students rated one of the presentations as average, and 208 students felt that a presentation was poor.
