| DIVA
Tech Day was held on January 25, 2003 at the Vocational Building
and at Magic City Campus. Girls in grades 8-11 had an opportunity
to hear about nontraditional careers and be involved in hands-on
activities in the following classes and career fields: automotive
technology, automotive collision and refinishing, computer electronics,
computer networking, construction technology, multimedia technology,
welding and horticulture.
ING
donated Pizza for lunch and Pepsi donated beverages. Several
businesses also donated door prizes which were awarded at the
end of the day. All of the participants left with new ideas
and their hands filled with the projects they had created.

| In
this session, girls got to remove dents, smooth, sand
and paint sheet metal, just like the auto body repair
shops do. Although, when they entered the paint booth,
the only customer they had to please was themselves.
Each participant got to take their sheet metal masterpiece
home with them. |

you lose your marbles, this session would have been
perfect for you! Here the girls got to use the ban saw,

tic-tac-toe game that is self-contained and perfect
for travel! |

| For
this session, the girls met in the CISCO lab at Magic City campus
to learn how cables are made and computers are connected. Creativity
& patience helps in this area, and the girls definitely
got creative with the cables they made, using them as hair bands,
belts, and other fashion accessories. |

| In
this session, girls wired a yes/no stop/go light. They started
with just the basic parts and once all the soldering was done,
they had a red light/green light battery operated device to
take home.

| In
this session, girls got to tour the greenhouse, select
the plants and create their own terrarium. Many students
didn't realize all the opportunities available for them
in horticulture/agriculture. |

| For
this session the girls tried their hands with the welding gear,
making a Welding Buddy picture frame to hold a photo or two.
Each creation had it's own unique design, color, and personality.

| In
this session, girls got to take pictures of themselves and their
friends with a digital camera, and merge their face onto an
image scanned in from a magazine or found on the Internet. They
turned themselves into everything from fashion models to tomb
raiders, and printed copies to take home and show their friends.
